Europe is witnessing a significant leap forward in its artificial intelligence ambitions with the recent inauguration of six new AI Factories in Czechia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, and Poland. This expansion brings the total number of AI Factories to 19, creating a continent-wide network that equips startups, SMEs, and enterprises with direct access to AI-optimised supercomputing power, specialised technical assistance, and tailored innovation support. In addition, 13 new AI Factory Antennas, national nodes interconnected with AI Factories, have been rolled out in countries including Belgium, Cyprus, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Malta, Slovakia, and several partner nations, ensuring regional AI Developers and trailblazers benefit from seamless access to the continent’s foremost AI infrastructure and expertise.
This infrastructure forms the backbone for accelerating digital transformation across Europe. For businesses, it means harnessing significant computing capabilities to rapidly develop and refine AI-driven solutions. For citizens the impact translates to enhanced public services, quicker healthcare advancements, and improved digital safety. At the core, this growth supports Europe’s commitment to fostering ethical, dependable AI technologies grounded in human-centric values.
The four AI sectorial TEFs (agrifoodTEF, TEF-Health, AI-MATTERS, and CitCom.AI) play a central role in Europe’s technological landscape, acting as catalysts that bridge key sectors such as agri-food, healthcare, manufacturing, and smart cities with Europe’s AI advancements. By connecting diverse innovation actors and fostering transnational and cross-border collaboration, TEFs empower startups and SMEs to access cutting-edge AI testing environments, embedding trustworthiness, safety, and ethical principles in real-world AI applications. Supporting their coordination and visibility, CoordinaTEF helps amplify these efforts across Europe, ensuring coherence, knowledge sharing, and a stronger collective impact.
Backed by over €500 million in joint funding from the EU and Member States and part of a broader €2.6 billion investment, these developments firmly position Europe as a leading AI powerhouse. The AI Factories and their Antennas complement the planned AI Gigafactories, ambitious facilities set to push the frontiers of AI modeling and computing even further.
With this robust, well-distributed AI infrastructure established, Europe's SMEsand start-ups are supported by initiatives like CoordinaTEF, that help to connect them to the right TEFs in regards to their needs and requests.
